It’s true that an image says a thousand words, so just imagine how many words are said within a video. And, thanks to that medium we can all now make intelligent choices on where we might like to travel, stay and enjoy.
I just watched a short video of Ubud’s newest overnight option, Keliki Luxury Lodge and immediately booked in. Set between rice fields, with ravine views and a river as part of the property, it reminded me of the outskirts of Ubud back in its uncrowded heyday, the almost untouched beauty of rice fields and tropical verdure to left and right of the narrow asphalt as we drove through. So it is with a sigh of relief that I see this bijou resort offers just that, and by using mainly wood and bamboo has respected the contours of the valley, the traditions of the Balinese and has also been able to include impressive luxury too.
In these days of ‘work-bubble getaways’ I’d suggest the five-bedroom villa. The duplex Rama & Sita Villa is 250msq and overlooks the jungle vegetation and the river. Soothing, ‘surround’ sounds as you enjoy the two jacuzzis or the 38sqm pool.
Four one-bedroom villa options, spacious in their 80 square metres, make up the totality of the lodging options at Keliki, with Le Gastronome serving up French heritage and Balinese cuisine. Individual dining pods double up the “bubble” option although the breezy open-air dining hall is a delightful bamboo-construct option.
The all-bamboo La Source spa, perched on and across the river, and close to the sacred spring, is an architectural vision to behold. Beautifully designed interiors and exterior, coupled with the riverside location, is certainly uncommon and something to be truly enjoyed. Top of my list now that I have booked, is to lounge in La Source’s lower gallery that actually bridges the river and while away the hours day-dreaming, or as we say nowadays, setting intentions for the incoming year that is 2021.
Possibly because I have been here for 25 years, I might not take them up on their tempting offer of exploring their off-the-beaten path options, however having said that, wouldn’t it be fabulous if I found myself back in the real Bali?
