Hilton Awards Travel With Purpose Grants

Hilton awards Travel with Purpose Action Grants to four hotels in Indonesia to support local communitie.

Four hotels across Indonesia receive grants to address environmental and societal concerns in communitie.

Hilton has announced the recipients of its 2018 Travel with Purpose Action Grants, awarding more than IDR 90.000.000 to four winners in Indonesia this year. Each winner has demonstrated their passion and dedication in developing creative and impactful solutions for their communities that are aligned with Hilton’s corporate responsibility program, Travel with Purpose.

Travel with Purpose Action Grants are given to Team Members of Hilton properties and corporate offices that propose creative ways to contribute and improve the lives and environments of the local communities where they operate, while driving value for their hotels and offices.

“With already five trading hotels in Indonesia and a pipeline of six more to open in the next three to five years, we have a huge role to play in contributing and giving back to the communities in which we operate.  We make so much more of an impact when we rally the Team Members across our hotels behind the cause. The Travel with Purpose Action Grant is one way we can provide an opportunity for our hotels to take ownership in giving back to their own communities and we are immensely proud of the outstanding and innovative ideas they have developed,” said Nils-Arne Schroeder, regional general manager of Indonesia & Timor Leste.

“From supporting the production of eco-friendly bags in Bali to completing a revitalization of a disadvantaged preschool, this year’s wins are a clear demonstration of our Team Members’ creativity and passion. It’s also especially heartening to work with organizations such as ByeBye Plastic Bags, founded by Bali-born sisters Melati and Isabel Wijsen, whose work have been so impactful their efforts to reduce plastic waste and clean up Bali’s beaches, rivers and streets have been recognized globally and most recently through the ‘CNN Heroes – Young Wonders Award’. We look forward to seeing all these ideas turn into reality and hearing about the Hilton Effect each one of them have on the communities we operate in,” Schroeder added.

This year’s Travel with Purpose Action Grants recipients in Indonesia are as follows:

  • Conrad Bali Resort and Spa, together with Hilton Bali and Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport, will be leading a project together with non-profit organization Bye Bye Plastic Bags (BBPB) in the production of linen-based, recycled material bags as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic bags. The funds will be directed to building a facility and providing necessary equipment and electricity where women will create the re-usable bags from discarded linens that are to be resold and form the basis of their social economy, allowing them to thrive in their home village near Bedugul.
  • Hilton Bandung has proposed to work with Yayasan Beribu, a community-based preschool accommodating 30-40 underprivileged children in the Ciumbuleuit area of Bandung. It is the second of two phases in the revitalization of the preschool which started in 2017 to rebuild the roof and support structure to stop the leaks and provide for a safe and fresh learning environment. The second phase, awarded this year, will see a revitalization of the playground area, removing and replacing old and rusted playground equipment, so the children may play and learn in a safe environment. This marks Hilton Bandung’s third Action Grant win.

These accolades undoubtedly showcase the Hilton Effect – the positive world-altering impact that Hilton has had over the past 100 years, and continues to have, on the lives and communities in which it operates.

The winners will receive the Travel with Purpose Action Grants in December. In line with the global hospitality company’s 100th anniversary milestone, a refreshed Travel with Purpose Action Grant program will be unveiled in 2019.
