Long, hot days drifting on an azure pool without the shrieks of children shattering the party. Sound good? The Yak spotlights Bali’s best adult’s only pools.
Azul Beach Club
Azul Beach Club is a beachfront bamboo tree house serving sassy sunset cocktails, a great live music program plus epic all-day dining. The pool – which has a strict Monday to Saturday adult’s only policy – overlooks the beach with a view framed with palm fronds. Enjoy the big circular whirlpool, which is flanked by wooden decks topped with sun lounges, umbrellas and a few fabulous recessed Moorish-style banquets. Any child attempting to enter the pool is quickly dispatched to the kid-friendly lagoon pool of the Mandira resort that safely borders the beach club. Azul welcomes kids for a family BBQ every Sunday.
Of all the uber chic resort enclaves of southwest Bali, among the most understatedly glam is the Alila Seminyak. This darling of the champagne set has an exquisite trio of dreamy pools and one – the Serene pool – is for the exclusive use of hotel guests who of voting age. No kids, no day guests. It is tucked away from the buzzing big pool and bars at the centre of the resort and serves as a stylish aquatic retreat for the more chilled guests at this heavenly destination.
The long established Padma Legian has a neat little beach club called S.K.A.I that sits on a hot spot right where the hotel grounds meet Legian beach. Best of all is the 38-metre infinity pool is reserved for the grown ups only. Think kid free space that is splash and squeal free 24/7. Expect to hear only the lapping of the infinity pool and rolling waves of the beach. The view from this perch is all white sand, endless sea and sky plus the dramatic Bali sunset, which is delivered daily for free. S.K.A.I is a childless zone at all times so take a lounge and enjoy the peace.
Kayumanis Nusa Dua Private & Villas & Spa
Among the low key glamour of Nusa Dua’s long white sandy beaches and exclusive resorts is the Kayumanis Nusa Dua Private & Villas & Spa. This beautiful estate, with its pavilions and gardens, refuses to accept any guest under the age of 16 years making it a perfect spot for those who are seeking exclusive serenity. The pool villas are set around a pool adult’s only communal pool with a private beach club. Guests staying at Kayumanis properties in Ubud, Sanur and Jimbaran – which are not childfree – can retreat to the Nusa Dua pool and beach club for some quality time without junior.
Cocoon Beach Club
Cocoon Beach Club is possibly Bali’s original party pool hang out and it’s annual Splash and Bounce parties are strictly adults only events. On a daily basis the pool allows children before 1pm, so it can be popular among families for early lunches to best to avoid it before about noon. After that it is party time with giant pool toys, island beats, private cabanas and resident DJ’s. From 8pm the pool floods with neon coloured lights and flickering candles set a funky vibe for a party under the stars.
El Kabron Restaurant and Beach Club at Pecatu has one of the island’s most iconic pools perched on a cliff 50 metres above the Indian Ocean and the views are big. Famous for champagne parties, its Cliff Club and VIP balcony, El Kabron was conceived as a cocktail bar not aimed at families. While the pool is not definitively adult’s only, it is, however, rarely overrun by children. In 2018 it will be blessed with an exclusive adult’s only policy. An extension is underway at El Kabron, which will include a new family pool, bar and restaurant. The move to create a private pool and space for a more mature crowd can only enhance the ambience of sophisticated luxury and elegance.
