Amarta Beach Retreat on Pasut Beach, in Tabanan presents Amarta Art Festival from December 3rd to 15th, 2022 in collaboration with Maharupa Batukaru and Sanggar Kembang Bali. It is one of the Amarta Beach Retreat’s heartfelt missions to support local talent and preserve local culture.

The Balinese theme “Nanduring Karang Awak” is inspired by the Balinese philosophy from the poet and Brahman priest, Ida Pedanda Made Sidemen. His writings teach us to live happily in a simple life, with the aim of “realizing” the ‘self’ which is so rich in potential. The Amarta Art Festival aims to explore this potential with artists from Tabanan, who have long been famous for their works, and will include Ketut Mario in dance, Nyoman Nuarta in sculpture and Putu Wijaya in literature. This event is created in collaboration with Maharupa Batukaru and Sanggar Kembang Bali.

Maharupa Batukaru is a community of painters from Tabanan who have been collaborating for approximately four years through exhibitions of their art at various events. At this particular event as many as twenty-four painters will present their best artworks throughout Amarta’s stunning events spaces. The art will be displayed at the Joglo Daharan Restaurant, Joglo Sari, the Destination Meeting Room and at Lilly by The Sea Beachfront Dining. Apart from Maharupa Batukaru, this event also collaborates with Sanggar Kembang Bali, established in 2001 by one of the island’s most famous maestros, I Nyoman Sumandi, a “Wayang artist” or puppeteer, internationally renowned for his shadow-puppet performances. The performance of this particular Wayang will be hosted at the Joglo Sari.

The Amarta Art Festival will not only exhibit works of art by many talented artists, but visitors will also be able to take part in several art classes, including painting and sculpture. Classes will be held at Joglo Sari and guided by skilled artists. Should visitors be interested in the paintings on display while attending these classes, these can be purchased as souvenirs. It is the hope that the Amarta Art Festival will be an initial introduction that will lead to a deeper understanding of Balinese culture. It is also a prodigious platform in which to support local artists, help sustain their creativity and help motivate them to preserve their amazing talent and unique styles.
